Tayyab Takaful Plans
Description
The State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan defines its Takaful Plan (operated under the registered trademark “Tayyab”) as a Shariah-compliant community-pooling and risk-sharing system based on the Islamic principles of mutual cooperation (Ta’awun), brotherhood, and solidarity.
It serves as a Halal alternative to conventional life insurance by eliminating elements of interest (Riba), gambling (Maisir), and excessive uncertainty (Gharar).
Core Mechanics of State Life Takaful
Rather than paying premiums to an insurance corporation, participants pool their resources to protect one another:
The Waqf Fund (Participant Takaful Fund): A fixed portion of your contribution is treated as a donation (Tabarru) into a community pool. If any member faces financial hardship due to death or disability, their claims are paid out from this shared pool.
Participant Investment Account (PIA): The remaining portion of your money goes into an investment account. These funds are invested strictly in Shariah-compliant instruments such as Sukuk (Islamic bonds), Islamic equities, and Islamic mutual funds.
The Wakala – Waqf Hybrid Model: State Life acts as a manager (Wakeel or operator). They charge a predefined management fee to administer the fund, but any surplus remaining in the Waqf pool at the end of the year belongs to the participants, not the company.
Shariah Governance: The window operation is fully licensed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and is strictly overseen by an independent Shariah Advisor to ensure permanent Islamic compliance
